Monitoring the Surface Elevation Changes of a Monsoon Temperate Glacier with Repeated UAV Surveys, Mainri Mountains, China

چکیده
Due to the deep valleys, steep mountains and influence of Indian monsoon on Mainri Mountains (Yunnan Province, China), it is difficult estimate glacier change from microwave optical remote sensing. To bridge gap between low-quality space-borne sensing scarce in situ measurements, airborne sensing, such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), may provide a remarkable opportunity monitor with high-quality tools. determine temperate change, three UAV surveys were conducted Melang Glacier November 2019, April 2020 2020. Then, surface elevation changes estimated orthophotos DSMs. High accumulation high ablation (+10.5 m −13.5 m) observed period period, mean −3.0 surveyed area 2019 The avalanche, debris cover, ice cliffs proglacial lake resulted heterogeneous pattern changes. Given that more sensitive temperature, have experienced substantial recession mass loss past few decades. This study provides appropriate approach for monitoring Mountains.

Monitoring Temperate Glacier with High Resolution Automated Digital Cameras – Application to the Argentière Glacier
In the context of global warming, the monitoring of temperate glaciers is an important issue for economical and security reasons (water and energy resources, falling ice...) and climate change monitoring. In the glaciologist community this monitoring is based on ground measurements yielding specific information about mass-balance and ice flow. Unfortunately the daily variation measurements of t...
متن کاملGlacier Surface Monitoring by Maximizing Mutual Information
The contribution of Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) images compared with the single-channel SAR in terms of temporal scene characterization has been found and described to add valuable information in the literature. However, despite a number of recent studies focusing on single polarized glacier monitoring, the potential of polarimetry to estimate the surface velocity of glaciers...
متن کاملA Glacier Surge of Bivachny Glacier, Pamir Mountains, Observed by a Time Series of High-Resolution Digital Elevation Models and Glacier Velocities
Surge-type glaciers are characterised by relatively short phases of enhanced ice transport and mass redistribution after a comparatively long quiescent phase when the glacier is virtually inactive. This unstable behaviour makes it difficult to assess the influence of climate change on those glaciers. We describe the evolution of the most recent surge of Bivachny Glacier in the Pamir Mountains, ...
متن کاملGlacier-specific elevation changes in parts of western Alaska
The meltwater from glaciers in Alaska contributes strongly to global sea-level rise, but accurate determination is challenging as only two comparatively small glaciers have long-term measurements of annual mass balance (Gulkana and Wolverine). Simple upscaling of their values to the entire region is error-prone as their representativeness is unknown and might be biased. Alternatively, differenc...
متن کاملStructure-from-Motion Using Historical Aerial Images to Analyse Changes in Glacier Surface Elevation
The application of structure-from-motion (SfM) to generate digital terrain models (DTMs) derived from different image sources has strongly increased, the major reason for this being that processing is substantially easier with SfM than with conventional photogrammetry. To test the functionality in a demanding environment, we applied SfM and conventional photogrammetry to archival aerial images ...
